What is the Average Penis Size: Facts, Figures, and Factors

Average penis size is probably smaller than most people think.  For a flaccid penis, the average length is about 3.6 inches and girth is 3.7 inches.  With an erection, about 5.2 inches long and 4.6 inches in girth is average (2).  Why, then, are so many men who are average or even bigger than average, insecure about their penis size?  There are many reasons so many men are insecure, often starting in puberty.  Participation in team or school sports can involve communal showers, public bathrooms often have open urinals, changing in gym locker rooms:  These activities inevitably force comparisons and for many, significant anxiety.  Further, with the advent of the internet, social media, and the widespread availability of adult material – which often features penises significantly longer than average – many men who would otherwise have no concerns about their size find themselves in self-doubt.
