A fairly common question we get asked is how to get a thicker penis.  Men have many different reasons they may be seeking this such as hoping to increase self esteem, increase their partners satisfaction or just looking to have some fun.  With so many scams and ripoffs out there, it’s important to know which options are real and which are not.  Real options will typically be offered by medical professionals and not be magic bullets.  At Upsize, we do a penis filler procedure that increases erect girth and flaccid length.  In addition to the filler procedure, we will cover the other potential options below:

Main Strategies for Increasing Thickness

1. Exercises and Tools

•Manual Routines: Options like jelqing and stretching are often touted as effective ways to increase thickness.  In fact, they can actually cause the penis to become thinner and stringier.  That is assuming they do anything at all (which they may not.)

•Pump Devices: Vacuum pumps are one of the most common scams and ripoffs.  They work by causing a negative pressure which forces blood into the penis resulting in a temporary erection.  While some fullness will be seen immediately afterward, they have no long term effect.  We often see that people who have used pumps for too long develop vascular trauma, adhesions and discolorations of their penis, rendering this a fairly unfavorable option.

2. Fat Transfer and Surgery

•Fat Grafting: Using your own body fat to enhance girth does work, but the fat may get reabsorbed resulting in unevenness.  Additionally, the results look like there is cellulite or fat in your penis.

•Suspensory Ligament Release: This surgery claims to be focused on length.  Ligamentolysis surgery cuts the ligament to allow more of the penis to extend externally. It doesn’t address thickness.  More importantly however, this surgery more often than not results in a shorter penis.  Once the ligament is cut, scar tissue develops and the penis can actually get pulled into the body more.  Lastly, the penis will no longer point upwards during an erection as this is the intent of the ligament.  This causes a strange looking appearance.  An erect penis pointed downwards to the floor.  Lastly, now you cant actually use your penis as well for its intended purpose.

•Penis enlargement implants: Implants can be made of silicone or biologic mesh.  We have seen numerous complications in patients that have received surgical implants.  Beware as well that they do not increase erect length.  These types of implants can only cause flaccid length increases and erect girth increases, which is similar to what fillers can do (below).

3. Filler Injections

•Hyaluronic Acid: This is what we use for the Upsize Procedure.  Penis filler injections are a minimally invasive option that uses a gel like filler to increase erect thickness and flaccid length.

•PMMA: At Upsize, we long ago chose to not use so called permanent fillers such as PMMA or silicone.  There are several issues with them.  First, they are not really permanent (usually last around 5 years as opposed to 2-3 with hyaluronic acid fillers.). Second, we often see patients with imperfect permanent filler injections that require surgery to correct.  With hyaluronic acid, assuming there was an imperfect result, the filler could be dissolved with hyaluronidase enzyme and surgery would not be required to fix it.

Why Choose Filler?

Filler injections offer a balance of simplicity (1 hour procedure with immediate results), efficacy (the procedure actually works immediately) and safety (dermal fillers have an extensive track record of safety). The procedure is quick, fairly straight forward, and with fewer side effects compared to more invasive surgeries. Patients can go back to work or regular activities immediately after the procedure.

Key Safety Notes and Expectations

Professional Assessment

The first step to getting a thicker penis is to book a consultation with a doctor who specializes in penis enlargement (ie. an Upsize doctor or similar).

Procedure Details

If you visit a non-Upsize doctor and it is determined that surgery is the best option for you (which we believe it rarely is), you will be asked to leave a deposit (often thousands of dollars) and then book a date to come back for the surgery when you are available to get time off work and regular activities.

If you visit an Upsize doctor and it is determined filler is the right fit for you, the process can typically be started the same day as the consultation.  The procedure involves numbing the penis with local anesthetic followed by injections of filler into the correct tissue planes required to get an even and cosmetically pleasing result.  Mild swelling can follow, but almost all patients resume normal routines immediately and the swelling is typically gone within a week..

How Long Does it Last

If you opt for a penis enlargement surgery, this may last a lifetime.  While this may seem like a benefit, it is often not.  Surgical implants have the possibility of causing scar tissue, adhesions and erectile dysfunction and this can often get worse over time.

If you opt for filler, you can generally expect it to last 2-3 years.  Individual factors such as genetics and metabolism can change the duration slightly.  After 2-3 years, in most cases, a complete redo of the procedure is not necessary. Rather, patients often need a top up which is a fraction of the original procedure.

Navigating the world of penis enlargement procedure and options requires doing some research to determine what works and what doesn’t. While exercises don’t work and certain surgeries do exist, filler treatments have been gaining popularity due to their convenience, simplicity and immediate girth gains.
